| Antelope & Castle 121-8 v OT's & Romsey 119-5 |
| Antelope & Castle 1st XI started their County Div 1 season with an impressive victory against the newly merged OT's & Romsey in a tight game at Doncaster Farm. The match was delayed due to rain and only a 30 over per side match was possible with the game starting at 3.30pm.Antelope won the toss, elected to bat, and got off to a steady start as Rob Matthews (11) and Dave Agha (10) put on 28 in the first 9 overs. Antelope then lost three quick wickets as both openers and then Steve Wallis (0) were out in the space of 2 overs. Steve Lockyer (18) and New Zealander Steven Teepa (30 n.o.) added a further 21 runs to leave Antelope on 53 after 18 overs. With wickets in hand, Antelope were able to push the run rate along with Richard Keep (8), Justin Drummond (12) and Allan Hurst (8) all adding a few quick runs as Steven Teepa provided able support from the other end. As Antelope finished on 121 they were confident that this could be a winning score on a pitch which was hard to score on, with variable bounce following the rain.OT's & Romsey started their reply looking for plenty of quick singles as the openers realised that it was going to be hard to play shots against some tight bowling from John Barnes & Steve Lockyer. Some sloppy fielding early on allowed the batsman to pinch several singles before Gary Green produced a direct hit from point to grab an important breakthrough. Shayne Freemantle (59) & John Barnard (31) then started to build what looked like was going to be a match winning partnership as they combined solid defence with some hard hitting to punish the loose balls. The Antelope bowlers kept to their task well, but OT's & Romsey looked set for victory needing only 12 runs from the last 3 overs with 9 wickets in hand. However, Antelope got the breakthrough that they needed as Rob Matthews produced a direct hit to run out Barnard. The batsmen still needed only 7 runs from the last two overs and were still looking favourites until Allan Hurst picked up the important wicket of Feemantle. Hurst conceded only one further run from the over leaving 6 runs needed from the final over for victory. Steve Lockyer then had the task of bowling the final over and 3 runs came from the first 3 bowls as the batsman swung the bat in an effort to score the elusive boundary, which would win them the game. The batsmen then failed to score any runs from the next two deliveries and with a simple run out off the last ball, Antelope had won the game from what had once seemed an impossible position. |

NEWSLETTER |
Colts |
| As mentioned in previous newsletters, we are starting colts cricket and training sessions are now taking place at Crestwood School from 5.30 pm - 7 pm every Thursday. We need volunteers to form a large group which will help with running these sessions. If we can get enough people we hope to rota it so that you would only be needed every 3 to 4 weeks for those that wanted. Obviously we are more than happy if you wish to help more. I hope that you can give a little time to help make this a success. Everyone interested in helping should speak to Steve (even if you have spoken to him before about this) so that we can start a rota. |
Training |
| Every Thursday 7 - 8.30 pm for both the ladies and the senior mens sides. Training to include nets and also fielding practice. |
Colts Matches |
| If the training sessions are a success as we hope, we will need to have a few volunteers for matches to be played during the summer. Again it is better to have a large group which we can rota. Steve will be organising the dates and opposition etc, all we need is for a couple of players to be at each game to give advice, manage the children etc. We only expect to have about 6 - 10 games this summer so again the more people that can help, the less one or two people will have to do. |
Team Selection |
| It would be a great help to all the captains if players phone the captain concerned if there is any doubt regarding the weather on the day of the game. |
