Match Report |
| by the Ladies Captain Emma McMillan |
| There were 11 teams put into two groups, we were in the smaller group of 5
so had 4 group games. Our team of 7 players was; Emma McMillan, Jemma Green,
Sarah Conlon, Verity Trutwein, Lizzie Cross, Camilla O'Shea & Jo Marsh
(w/k). Results Rowledge A 40 Eastleigh & Otterbourne 49 Disciplined bowling kept the 2000 Hampshire League champions down to 40. Emma & Jemma were undefeated to pass the Rowledge score with ease. Eastleigh & Otterbourne 35 Misfits 44 Once again no wickets lost in the chase by Sarah and Verity. Frensham B 13 Eastleigh & Otterbourne 83 A wicket from Sarah's and Lizzie's first balls helped demolish new team Frensham and then lots of boundaries by Lizzie and Jo & quite a few extras helped us to this big total. Normandy B 35 Eastleigh & Otterbourne 79 Assuming we won this game both us, Rowledge and Misfits would all be level on points so we needed to score over 57 to win the group, Sarah and Jemma batted brilliantly and we easily passed the total to earn a place in the semi-final. Semi-final Eastleigh & Otterbourne 48 Bournemouth 48-2 Another batting performance in which we didn't lose a wicket, this time by Lizzie and Verity. This was a very tense match with Bournemouth scoring 21 off the first 2 overs. As Jemma went to bowl the last over only 5 were needed, a run out and a wicket meant they needed 2 off the last ball. Some more good fielding meant we kept them down to the single - the scores were level, it was down to wickets lost. We had lost none, Bournemouth two, so we're through to the final. Final Misfits 35 Eastleigh & Otterbourne 36-1 Our accurate bowling and exceptional fielding, including Jo's first catch in her debut performance as wicket keeper, kept the Misfits down to 35. Sarah and Jemma's previous batting earnt them the chance to open but Emma came to the crease when Sarah played on in the first over. Some good running between the wickets meant we only needed 6 off the last over. Two wides later (3 for a wide) we had done it. We were champions! This is a great start to the season for us, lets hope we can continue this in the League games where in the past our lack of depth in batting has let us down. |
