| January 1999 Newsletter |
SECRETARY'S MESSAGE |
| First of all, I hope that you all had an excellent Christmas and are looking forward
to the year ahead. Secondly, may I ask you all to take the time to read this newsletter
and respond to any of the items that are of interest to you. This year will see many changes to the structure of the Hampshire League and the Committee will be working hard to ensure that Antelope and Castle Cricket Club keep up with the requirements for the new leagues. The new Premier Leagues for the year 2000 will require an improvement in ground standards and also the introduction of colt's cricket. You will hear plenty more about these developments in the next few months, but hope that you will help the Committee achieve its aims. Should you require any further information please contact me or otherwise I hope to see you at the winter nets (details enclosed). Remember the Committee are working for the benefit of you, the members, and again ask that you support them whenever possible in what will be an exciting year for the club. |

VIDEO CAMERA |
| Anyone willing to bring a video camera to nets please let Steve Lockyer know so we can arrange to tape players in action! |
TENNIS BALLS |
| The club is looking for anyone who may be able to donate tennis balls either new or old to the club. These will be used to help in the coaching at the winter nets. Anybody with some tennis balls at home should bring them along to the nets or contact Steve Lockyer to arrange collection. |
COLT'S CRICKET |
| One of the requirements for the new Premier League is that every club must have a colt's team. The Committee will therefore be looking to start a colt's team this season. We have tried this before, but we will need to make it work this season if we are to hold our place in the new league. We therefore ask every member to support us and anyone willing to help should contact Steve Lockyer. Anyone who thinks that they may know of any colt's players should also contact Steve Lockyer. |
COACHING COURSE |
| The new Premier League will also require clubs to have qualified coaches. With this in mind, and also to enable people to help with the colt's sides, the club is looking for people to attend a National Cricket Association coaching course. The course will take one week end (date to be arranged), but not only does it give you a Nationally recognised qualification, it is also very helpful for your game. Anybody interested in attending this course (including those who may not want to help with the colt's sides, but just improve their game) should contact Steve Lockyer. |
ACCOMMODATION REQUIRED |
| The club is currently talking to several overseas players regarding the coming season. We are therefore looking for anyone who may be able to offer them accommodation. The players will pay an amount for the accommodation and also some extra towards food and telephone costs. Anyone interested contact Steve Lockyer. |
QUIZ NIGHT |
| Following the success of last years quiz night another is planned at The Inn on the Green for Sat 27th Feb at 7.30 p.m. max 6 per team at £2.50 a head. Contact John Beesley if attending. Bring a raffle prize with you please. |
FORTHCOMING EVENTS |
| March - Ten Pin Bowling April - Paintball (find out who your mates are) Exact dates to be confirmed. Anyone with any suggestions for possible future events please contact John Beesley. |
CURRY NIGHT |
| An evening of gentile entertainment in Eastleigh is being arranged for Fri 29th Jan to celebrate Steve Lockyer's birthday. Evening to consist of "copious amounts of lager and a red hot curry" - all who are interested contact the man himself. Partners included. |
BONUS BALL |
| This year fantasy cricket will be replaced by the Bonus Ball. The idea is you buy a number between 1 and 49 for £1. If that number is drawn as the Bonus Ball on the Wed Draw of the National Lottery you win £25. You can buy a ball for any number of weeks or just pick a lucky dip number as and when you feel like it. The first winning draw will take place on Wed 3rd March. Speak to Danny O'Brien for more details. |
INDOOR CRICKET |
| The 'A' team has had a shaky start to the season only winning one game (that was in the cup), and are currently bottom of the league. The 'B' team however are doing a little bit better - they are top of their league and are pushing for promotion to Div 1. |
EVENING LEAGUE |
| Evening games this year will be played in the Winchester league, interested players please let Steve Lockyer know. |
A LETTER TO THE EDITOR |
| This year will be definitive in the development of the club, with many positive moves
already in place with the large 'community' committee which should bring us together as a
club and not three separate teams, and hopefully this togetherness will transfer to the
pitch with all players pulling for each other. The other main step forward is the introduction of midweek nets to give everyone the chance of a good bat to get into decent nick and also get much needed catching/fielding practice. It will also be a pivotal year with the restructuring of the Southern League and Hampshire One, Steve Lockyer is finding the criteria requirements so we can work towards the highest possible status. By the time you read this I will be in Oz enjoying the sun, the soaring temperatures, cool beer, and lots of cricket and golf (it's a hard life). I will be playing for Craig's team, Moe CC and will also have the opportunity to visit Melbourne and spend a week with Brett who is hoping to be our 1st team overseas player this season. I'll see you all in April and remember - wrap up warm. Allan |
