January 1998 Newsletter

This is an extract from the newsletter sent to all the club members this month.

Happy New Year

Now that we're well into January our thoughts are turning to warmer weather and the first friendlies of the year. But before we do this it's time to shake off the lethargy of Christmas and go to our forthcoming NET SESSIONS.

They are all at Thornden school, Chandlers Ford, and are all on Sunday's from 11:00am to 1:00pm, just in time to get to the pub and undo all the good work you've just done. The dates are:

February 1st
February 8th
February 15th
February 22nd
March 1st
March 8th
March 15th
March 22nd
March 29th
April 5th

We'd like to see you all there this year! If you're not sure how to get to Thornden then email Andy.

2nd XI Captain - Dan O'Brien
3rd XI Captain - Andy Price

Evening Captain - John Barnes
Sunday "A" Captain - Dave Agha
Sunday "B" Captain - Vacant

Social Ctte Chairman - Dave Munday

Let one of the committee know if you are interested in filling the vacancy.

Colts

We decided at the AGM to set up two colts sides - an Under 11 and an Under 15 side.We still need volunteers to run the 2 sides. If you can spare the time PLEASE email Andy - our long term success depends on a steady stream of new players regularly coming through, so these jobs are very important to the future of the club.

As well as people to run the sides we also need helpers to go along to the coaching sessions and the matches. Again, if you're interested in helping email Andy.

Coaching

There are 2 different types of coaching available this year.

1. A coaching award course will take place (if enough of you are interested)- this is designed to teach you how to coach and leads to a qualification at the end - but it's also a great way to improve your own game.

2. Steve, a qualified coach, will run a course for everyone interested either before the net sessions (for you early risers) or at a mutually convenient time.If you're interested in either course email Andy.

Congratulations

To Stripe & Nancy who have recently announced their engagement. Just remember that weddings are not allowed during the cricket season!

Where are all the New Players?

Once again we're on the look out for fresh blood, so ask all your friends, colleagues, relatives and neighbours if they're interested in playing - either get them to come along to one of the net sessions or email Andy.

And don't forget, see if your friends, colleagues, relatives and neighbours have children who would be interested in playing in our U11 or U15 colts sides - get them or their parents to email Andy.

Umpires & Scorers

So you want to be a scorer or an umpire do you? No? Well why not? These are very valuable people to ensure that 22 players can enjoy their cricket (OK, umpires don't always come high up your Christmas card list, but they DO carry out a useful job).

So if you're interested, two courses are being run. There is an umpires course being held at Easton CC starting on Tuesday 20th January, running for 6 weeks. The scorers course is being held at Winchester Police HQ and this starts on Thursday 22nd January, also running for 6 weeks.

Anyone interested should email Andy for further details.

1997 Dinner Dance

Everyone who attended the presentation at the Eastleigh Forte Posthouse had a great time, so much so that we've booked the same venue for our 1998 event.

Saturday 10th October 1998

So, make a note in your diaries and start saving your pennies.

Highlights of the 1997 event was John Beesley doing the nearly Full Monty, followed shortly by Tim Nice but Dim, and then we made £80 by auctioning off John for a days work. At the time of writing we're still waiting for the cheque from the bidding consortium - you know who you are!

John was once again at the forefront as he won the fantasy cricket sweep, winning £100.
