PRESS RELEASE
Eastleigh & Otterbourne Cricket Club
April 2001
Eastleigh CC & Otterbourne CC have merged to form Eastleigh &
Otterbourne CC. The club has 3 league XI's playing in Hampshire County division 1, Hampshire East division 1 and Hampshire East division 2.
They are also one of the few clubs in Hampshire to run a Ladies league XI.
The merger creates one of the strongest clubs in Hampshire. They offer cricket at all levels for men and women, and the colts development
scheme at Otterbourne will allow boys and girls interested in cricket to progress through the colts sides and into the senior XI's.
The club's main sponsor, Ray Lambert of Lambert Brothers Haulage in Eastleigh said, "I am delighted to continue to support the new club.
This is a tremendous opportunity for 2 great clubs to build on their strengths and become the premier club in Hampshire. I am particularly
excited about the opportunities for young players in the borough of Eastleigh."
The new club also offers Evening league cricket at the highest level. Eastleigh CC won the
Hampshire Chronicle Cup in 2000 and will be trying hard to retain the trophy this season.
For less serious cricketers the regular Sunday friendlies see the club playing at some of the best grounds in Hampshire, and for the long
winter months the club runs 3 indoor sides at Flemming Park and Winchester.
The club has 2 grounds at Doncaster Farm in Eastleigh and the Southern Water Ground in
Otterbourne.
New players of all ages and abilities (both men & women) are always welcome. For details of how to join the club visit their web site on
www.chilihouse.demon.co.uk or telephone the club chairman, Mike O'Brien, on 023 8076 9452.
END.
