  Towing Training - Categories B + E
Changes to licensing laws in January 1997 restrict the use of trailers.  Employees often take on responsibility for towing with little or no training, and therefore may be unaware of the risks involved.  Wherever an employee needs to tow a trailer as part of his or her work, employers should ensure that they have the necessary skills to ensure the risks are minimised.

Interesting Fact

Did you know that on 'national speed limit' single carriageway roads, HGV's have a speed limit of 40mph - and a survey by the Department for Transport in 2001 showed that 76% of HGV drivers exceeded this limit!

Our course module focuses on reducing the risks involved with towing, by developing proactive / defensive driving and manoeuvring techniques, improving hazard awareness skills specific to towing and preparing drivers for their test should it be required (i.e. if they passed their test after 1-1-99).  Employers may also like to consider this course for employees with company owned or leased vehicles who tow trailers outside of work hours, as the risk to injury and the associated bent-metal and hidden costs will still apply.

This training will be appropriate if you have employees who need to tow trailers as part of their job, whether this is a regular occurrence or if you hire trailers for occasional journeys.  It is also appropriate if the risk assessments show that employees use company vehicles for towing their own trailers, or the crash analysis shows that they are implicated in any crashes.
