  Mobile Phone Dangers Simulation Training
Mobile phone usage is widespread amongst occupational drivers, despite the fact that all the evidence points towards the fact that driving whilst on the phone is one of the most distracting things a driver can do.  It has been shown that it is the conversation that is the main distraction, not the physical act of using the phone, and more organisations are banning their use.

Interesting Fact

Most observers agree that the root cause of over 95% of vehicle crashes is human error

Our course module lets employees see for themselves how their driving is affected when they are on the telephone.  It uses a computer simulator where the drivers control a car using a steering wheel, brake and accelerator - so all they have to do is 3 physical tasks, and there are no other vehicles on the course.  Once they are used to the simulator, a fully hands-free call is initiated, and any differences in their driving is noted (crashes, spins, lap times).  Most drivers go much slower and/or crash more often and/or cannot answer the questions (that are designed to make them think).  These differences are explored in an individual de-brief.  In-vehicle training is better, as this simulates the actual situation better, but is a higher cost and more time consuming.

This training may be appropriate if you allow your occupational drivers to use a mobile phone whilst driving using a hands-free installation.  It is also appropriate for organisations looking to implement some form of restriction on the use of mobile phones whilst driving, to help get buy-in from employees.
